IT’S MORE THAN JUST A WALK IN THE PARK...

Thousands of animals in Baltimore are counting on BARCStoberfest this year to save their lives – Oct. 28, 2023

This year Macaroni KID South Baltimore is PROUDLY SPONSORING the 19th Annual BARCStoberfest

The 19th annual BARCStoberfest is so much more than just a walk in the park! The pet-friendly festival at Patterson Park on Saturday, October 28 not only raises critical funding to benefit the more than 11,000 homeless animals that come to the Baltimore Animal Rescue and Care Shelter (BARCS) annually, but it’s also a ton of fun! Festival veterans, as well as new attendees, will find fresh and exciting activities and entertainment at every turn.

THE 5K RACE + 1-MILE WALK: The morning kicks off with the 5K charity run or walk. Participants, their fundraising team members and their dogs (optional) line up for the race at 9 a.m. around Baltimore’s Patterson Park. Following the 5K run, the main festival opens to the race participants and the public at 9:30 a.m. Runners must register directly through Charm City Run. Participation entry fee is $50, which includes the 2023 T-shirt, dog bandana and Charm City Run numbered bib. Walkers can register on www.BARCStoberfest.org by signing up to fundraise and raising a minimum of $50.

BARKIN’ BEER GARDEN: Listen to live music and drink local craft beers, wines and cocktails with your pup by your side while overlooking Baltimore's best view of the city! More than a dozen local adult-beverage vendors will be in attendance along with several non-alcoholic options and snacks. Seating is picnic style and attendees can choose to leave their blankets behind to be donated to the animals at the shelter.

FAMILY-FRIENDLY FESTIVAL: There’s fun ‘fur’ the whole family at BARCStoberfest, including our crowd favorite “Howl-O-Ween” pet costume contest; yoga with your pup; our “Treats or Treats” trick-or-treating game for kids and pets; talented face painters; story time from local children’s book authors, food trucks; and a pet-centric shopping market.

This year’s fundraising goal is $350,000, which accounts for more than 10% of BARCS’ operating budget. While the festival is free to the public, we encourage attendees to create fundraising teams ahead of time at www.BARCStoberfest.org—and, of course, bring a generous heart to the event!

About BARCS

The Baltimore Animal Rescue and Care Shelter (BARCS) is the largest companion animal shelter in Maryland. Each year, BARCS takes in more than 11,000 homeless animals including dogs, cats, small companion animals, wildlife, farm animals and exotics. As an open-admission shelter, BARCS does not turn away any animal in need of shelter, food and a loving touch and grants refuge to every abandoned, neglected, abused, lost or surrendered animal that comes through our door. Individuals from all over Baltimore come to BARCS every day of the week for reasons as diverse as reclaiming lost pets, adopting new furry family members, joining our foster and volunteer programs, and receiving free and low-cost resources to help them keep their pets in homes. BARCS' lifesaving programs seek to enhance the quality of life in our community through compassionate and impactful services to animals and people. BARCS makes a better community for Baltimore by providing humane care and shelter for homeless animals and promoting responsible pet ownership.
