Join Port Discovery as we celebrate World Puppetry Day! This full weekend event will be showcasing the work & skills of local puppeteers from the Maryland area. A variety of workshops, performances, and puppet meet-and-greets for children and adults to make, interact, and learn about different puppetry styles.

Studio Workshop Project: Popsicle Puppets- All Day
Create and explore imaginative play by making Popsicle Puppets in our Studio Workshop.
Discovery Stage Series- Alex and Olmsted: Milo the Magnificent- 11:00 AM
Alex and Olmsted's Jim Henson Foundation Grant awarded Milo the Magnificent is a highly engaging puppet show about an aspiring magician. This wordless comedy, inspired by turn of the century vaudeville entertainers, is as highly physical as it is charming. Using stunningly innovative puppetry, Milo presents a variety of magic tricks which don’t always go as planned. Great for all ages!
Jessica Rassp: Chameleon Puppet- 2:30 PM
Come meet the Chameleon Puppet as it wanders around Port Discovery Children's Museum! This silly color-changing lantern figure bounces along the landscape, curious about its surroundings. If you get close, it may even stick out its tongue! This interactive performance allows kids to draw their own ideas of how the chameleon's story unfold.
Puppetry X-Ray with Bonesevet- 12 PM & 4 PM
Have you ever wondered what puppets are made of? Or what’s inside a puppet? Or how many different types of puppets there are? Stop by Bonesevelt the skeleton’s Puppetry X-Ray to see, touch, and learn about the various parts that make puppets come alive!
The Lip-Sync Lounge: A Musical Style Puppet Show- 3 PM
An interactive performance featuring puppets, pre-recorded audio, and prop musical instruments. Enter the Lip-Sync Lounge where musicians Rhythm and Blues want to put on a show! Witness and participate in the elements that can make lip-syncing for puppet and human performances dazzling, while also learning about the evolution of American musical genres.

Discovery Stage Series- Val Smalkin: Silly Goose and Val- 11 AM
Val Smalkin presents a fast-paced, humorous 40-minute musical show with puppets, ventriloquism, dancing, singing, and 100% audience participation. Her Parents' Choice award-winning songs and Maryland State Arts Council award-winning solo performance are guaranteed to delight tots, tweens, and teens...and the timeworn, as well!
Jessica Preactor: Queen Gwen and King Arty the Dragon- 11:30 AM
Meet and interact with our resident performer Jessica Preactor. King Arthur and Queen Guinevere of Camelot have come to teach one of the virtues of becoming a Knight of the Round Table: telling the truth. Unfortunately, Arthur told a big lie so the Great Warlock Merlin turned him into a dragon! Help Gwen and Arthur reverse the spell while learning how honesty is the best policy.
Madison Misk: The Mary Jo Show- 3 PM
Our resident artist Madison Misk is making their Port Discovery debut as the character Mary Jo Macintosh! Mary Jo and her trusty cow Moona Mae will be singing songs and telling stories with the help of some puppet friends. All ages welcome for this puppet show!
