Cirque Du Soleil Corteo Review for families in South Baltimore

By Danyelle J July 4, 2019

Cirque Du Soleil has brought back one of their timeless shows, Corteo! Last night I was given the opportunity to experience the show with my family including my 6 year old niece. Normally I question if Cirque Du Soleil is worth the experience for children, this show answers that question with a resounding, YES!

The performance is done on a circular stage meaning that everyone is able to see the stage no matter where seated! My niece loved that the props was on the stage and in the audience! She said the setting of the stage looked magical! When the show starts we realized it was about a clown who had died. I was worried that this dark part  would hamper the show in my niece's eyes but with the playful angels trying to give the clown his wings, my niece was full with laughter! As the clown reflects his life, we are treated to awesome performances from acrobats, clowns and jugglers that is performing his funeral. My niece loved the bouncing bed act. What kid doesn't love to watch a pillow fight?!  She  was ready to do her own “show” at home!

My favorite act from the show was the acrobatic on the ladder, the thrill of watching him get to the top of a tall freestanding ladder and doing a headstand on it, nearly took my breathe away! They also had their own funny version of Romeo and Juliet apart of the show using clowns. So you can just imagine how much laughter ensued from that performance! The show is interactive with the audience as well which makes everyone feel included. Ballon Girl, name given by my niece was gently pushed around the whole audience. It was our (the audience) job to get her back on stage so the show could go on! The Maestro reminds us and the performers several times during the show that this is a funeral and we shouldn't be having a much fun! At the end the clown accepts his wings and goes toward heaven on his bike.

Personally,I Ioved this show! Death is a a hard subject to explain to children but I believe that they did it perfectly. My only concern is for the families with children sensitive to bright lights, there are a few moments. The show is two hrs long with a twenty min intermission keep that in mind when planning the night out. Go see this family friendly show and share with me your thoughts!
