As part of Maryland’s outdoor, nature-based child care pilot program, the Outdoor Preschool at BLISS Meadows is creating a new model for early childhood education where children have the freedom, time, and space to learn, play, and grow in nature every day.

Why Outdoor Preschool?

Children are natural scientists, especially when nature is their classroom!

At BLISS Meadows, our preschoolers spend their days learning through hands-on experiences in the outdoors. They’ll meet our resident goats and sheep, taste honey from our honeybees, explore wildflowers among fluttering butterflies, and discover new wonders as the seasons change.

Here, nature is an open-air classroom where curiosity, exploration, and discovery happen everyday.

Backyard Basecamp’s Outdoor Preschool is the first licensed program of its kind in Maryland, making enrollment this year a particularly special opportunity for families.

At BLISS Meadows, we’re also committed to expanding access to nature for Baltimore families, especially families of color who have historically faced barriers to safe, consistent access to outdoor spaces and nature-based education. We believe every child deserves the chance to explore the woods, feel the rain, discover insects, climb, get muddy, and build a lifelong connection with the natural world.

We know that high-quality early childhood education is a significant investment for families. That’s why the Outdoor Preschool at BLISS Meadows offers a tiered tuition model designed to make nature-based education more accessible to families with different financial circumstances.

Families can also choose a schedule that fits their needs and budget. In addition to full-time enrollment, we offer two flexible part-time options:

● Monday, Wednesday, and Friday

● Tuesday and Thursday

Wondering what your child will wear outside in all kinds of weather? With the right gear, almost any weather becomes an opportunity to explore!

At BLISS Meadows, preschoolers are provided with rain and snow gear to help them stay warm, dry, comfortable, and ready for adventure throughout Maryland’s changing seasons. Because at an outdoor preschool, a rainy day can be one of the most joyful days to learn, splash, and discover.

And when conditions truly aren’t safe for outdoor play, we’re prepared for that, too. BLISS Meadows has shelters and safety protocols in place for extreme temperatures, poor air quality, and other challenging conditions so children can safely enjoy the benefits of outdoor learning throughout the year.
